What is the SUNY North Bronx EOC?

The SUNY North Bronx Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) provides tuition-free academic and workforce development programs to eligible New York State residents.

Who is eligible to apply?

Applicants must be New York State residents, meet income eligibility guidelines, and be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, refugees, or asylees. Most programs require applicants to be at least 18 years old.

Is there a cost to attend programs?

No. All SUNY North Bronx EOC programs and services are provided at no cost to eligible students.

What programs are offered?

Programs include High School Equivalency (GED) preparation, ESOL, College readiness, Microsoft and Google IT certifications, and Career counseling.

How do I apply?

Applicants must complete the online application through the NBX EOC website and then attend in-person registration with required documents.

What documents are required?

Proof of identity, New York State residency, income eligibility, and educational background are required. Specific programs may have additional requirements.

Do I need to take a placement test?

Yes. Some programs require TABE Reading and Math placement tests to determine readiness and placement.

When can I apply?

Applications are accepted year-round, depending on program availability. Registration days and class start dates are posted on the website.

Are classes offered online or in person?

Some programs are offered in person, while others are available in hybrid or online formats.

Access the ATTAIN Lab

The ATTAIN Lab Technology Coordinators (LTCs) provides courses and Apps that can support your learning. The ATTAIN Lab also supports career exploration and digital literacy classes. To access the services of our ATTAIN Lab, please complete the Enrollment Form. You must be enrolled to access Lab services.

What do I do if I don’t have access to a computer or the internet?


While the NBCCOC does not have Loaner Devices for student use, you can come to the ATTAIN Lab and reserve computer time. Please contact the ATTAIN Lab for this resource.
